A Quick Guide to Choosing the Right Industrial Shelving Post for your Application

If you’re in the business of manufacturing, distribution, or order fulfillment, you know one thing above all: storage capacity is key.

Having products and materials in their proper place means more efficient workflows, quicker turnaround times, and ultimately, happier customers. Especially in today’s eCommerce landscape, having the right systems in place to stay organized and work efficiently can really give your business an edge.

When you’re starting to plan out a new facility, or your current operations need a refresh, it’s easy to overlook the importance of proper shelving. But installing tough, dependable shelving that’s built to grow with your business means improved inventory access, higher throughput, and efficiency for years to come.

When it comes to industrial shelving, there’s a slew of options out there. It can be tough to choose the right equipment from the right manufacturer, and difficult to size up the exact setup you’ll need.

That’s where Borroughs comes in. We’ve been building shelving since 1938, and have built systems for every type of industry, giving businesses big and small the building blocks to run efficiently. And of course, our shelves are made right here in the U.S.A. That means industry-leading turnaround times, personable and accessible customer service, and the confidence that your shelves are built right.

Now, let’s talk about Borroughs’ Box Edge Shelving. Generically called clip type shelving, our Box Edge Shelves come in a variety of gauges and post types to ensure a great match for any industry. Today, we are going to focus on the types of posts that are available with industrial shelving. At Borroughs, we manufacture three types of industrial shelving posts: Angle Post, Beaded Post, and High-Rise Post. Below, we’ll explain each, and discuss which shelving post is best for your specific outfit.

ANGLE POST

Angle post shelving is our bread and butter when it comes to industrial shelves. This standard 13-gauge post is ideal for standard shelving applications, and it suits the needs of many of our customers.

Designed for maximum strength and stability, they’re tough enough to stand up to whatever you throw at — or rather, on — them. Angle post also offers the most flexibility, and can be easily rearranged to suit your ever-changing requirements.

BEADED POST

Our beaded post shelving features a reduced front flange to provide additional clearance, perfect for applications that need a little more shelf height. Coming in at 14-gauge, it’s also a hair heartier than our angle post. Folks looking to store things like larger boxes for case picking often find this is a perfect fit for their needs, bringing extra height without sacrificing sturdiness.

HIGH-RISE POST

Last, but certainly not least, is our high-rise post. This 14-gauge post is built darn tough, developed by Borroughs engineers to allow maximum strength for applications that need to withstand a lot of weight at tall heights. This post is ideal for pick modules and multi-level systems that you find in many ecommerce fulfillment and distribution centers.
