JOB: DESIGN ENGINEER
Summary
Under the direction of the Manager of Engineering, the Design Engineer is responsible to provide industry research to turn product ideas into functional products using efficient and cost-effective processes. Duties include the creation of a design brief to serve a particular purpose, investigate possible production methods and utilize engineering software to refine and develop the product. The Design Engineer will utilize scientific processes and mathematical concepts to create their own innovative solutions to common problems. To collaborate with other staff through product design, research and development, marketing, and manufacturing teams to create highly functional products or services that are profitable to meet customer needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Processing of design work driven by special customer orders (EWR) and Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
• Conducting research into the design of new products and processes.
• Run analysis and FEA to ensure that key design requirements comply with applicable industry standards, classifications, and regulations.
• Develop and manage testing protocols and fabrication of prototypes.
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of production drawings, specifications, samples, written analysis, and test requirements.
• Prepare reference documentation such as product specifications and assembly instructions.
• Consulting with Purchasing and Production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed product with maximum efficiency and reduced cost.
• Assist Quality personnel to enact procedures for quality maintenance and to resolve production issues.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with engineering staff, other departments, and management.
• Evaluation and resolution to product issues in the field requiring travel and report writing.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
• A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering field with experience in the metal fabrication industry.
• Familiar with a wide variety of the sheet metal fabrication processes including steel coil processing and die setups, CNC programming/operation for turret punch presses and lasers, forming, resistance and wire welding, powder coating, assembly, and product packaging principles.
• Proficiency in CREO software is required with experience in AutoCad, Rhino, and Windchill software would be a plus.
• Proficiency in common office applications is required (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams).
• Strong mechanical ability and problem-solving skills sufficient to perform in a manufacturing environment.
• Must be able to work with other professionals to serve as a bridge between the technical and business sides of the organization; requires resourcefulness, tact, and a working knowledge of policies, practices, and procedures.
• Must be able to communicate well, cooperate with others.
• Must be able to manage time and prioritize tasks with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 ERP software would be a plus.
• Previous experience with Amada AP100 programming software would be a plus.
