Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library Gets the Green Light

When the new 55,000 sq ft. library in Clifton Park-Halfmoon, NY was approved, it was to be one of the state's first "Green" LEED certified buildings, and Borroughs was honored to be selected as the shelving supplier.

The library's construction and operation prominently feature examples of Green innovation: advanced control systems provide detailed energy monitoring; walls of windows provide abundant natural light; recycled materials make up the wall coverings, countertops and flooring.  Even the compass rose in the atrium (pictured below) is made of recycled bottles, mirrors and glass.   Read more...

Public Library Association Show 2012 in Philadelphia

Borroughs again showcased its new Low Profile Mobile Book Cart to the Public Library crowd in attendance at the 2012 biennial PLA show. Attendees who stopped by the booth showed a good deal of interest in Borroughs Wilsonstak products—especially the new book cart—many requesting additional information.

Prior to the show, using our construction lead resource, Reed Connect, we were able to identify projects in planning in the library market, several of whom we met with at the show. Currently across the entire United States there are over 270 library projects in some stage of planning, with a combined value of over 6.6 billion dollars.

A synopsis by the American Library Association's Jennifer Petersen gives a feel for the event:

More than 8,700 library staff, supporters, exhibitors, authors and guests from across the country attended the Public Library Association’s (PLA) 2012 Conference in Philadelphia to discuss various issues that impact U.S. public libraries and their users. Dedicated solely to meeting the interests of public librarians, the conference has a reputation for excellence, making it one of the most popular and successful events in the public library world.

The conference featured five full-day and six half-day preconference programs, several educational tours, more than 180 top-quality continuing education programs, author events and nearly 400 exhibiting companies.

Opening the conference was environmental business leader, advocate and author Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
No stranger to advocacy and fighting for the future of something he values, Kennedy’s discussion outlined current environmental problems and their possible solutions.
