Powder CoatingBorroughs continually looks for ways to improve our manufacturing process to enable us to lower our costs while at the same time increase the quality. Our Powder Coating capability is just one example. It allows us to be a more efficient manufacturer, while the coating itself provides customers with a heavier and more durable coating, and brings an "office furniture" quality to all of our products.
ExperienceEstablished in 1938, Borroughs has been building top-quality shelving systems for over seven decades. Our focus on producing "A" grade shelving products has given us the expertise to provide systems ranging from a small back room storage requirement to high-rise and multi-level systems found in today's distribution and fulfillment centers. Borroughs Experience is a major benefit which adds significant value. When dealing with huge projects, diverse requirements and critical situations, there is no substitute for experience.
Environmental ResponsibilityBorroughs Corporation takes a leading role within our community in environmental responsibility. Our continuing efforts and compliance was recognized with an Industry Excellence Award from the City of Kalamazoo, in May 2004. It was determined that our finishing process meets or exceeds current environmental standards. We were judged on a number of critical process factors including:
• Semi-annual monitoring of wastewater streams from our parts washers. • Annual inspection by the City of Kalamazoo for four days of waste water stream monitoring. • Timely reporting filed annually, confirming inspection and compliance of backflow valves. • Inspection by the City to ensure that we have no illegal connections for waste streams. • Our storm water pollution prevention plan was inspected by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. All grounds were inspected, including the roof, parking lot and storm drains and found to be in compliance. In addition, all requirements for reporting to the State of Michigan were in compliance.
Although there are a number of other factors involved with each of these points, we were also acknowledged for having all paperwork and compliance issues correct for the last five years! There were only two other companies in Kalamazoo County to measure up to this level of accuracy. Borroughs takes great pride in this achievement.
This is the latest example of an ongoing team effort. Other key initiatives include our recycling of scrap production materials and the installation of our environmentally friendly powder coat paint lines. Following the conversion from high solid and water-based paint to powder coating, no VOC’s from the paint lines were reported for the 2003 reporting year. In fact, we are no longer required to report to the EPA under the Toxic Release Inventory report, since we no longer have any reported chemical usage or storage above threshold amounts. All of this points to the high value that the people of Borroughs place in the way we go about our business.
Borroughs Technical SupportBorroughs offers one-of-a-kind technical support for shelving systems. Our Technical Support Group is dedicated to the development and implementation of large-scale shelving projects. The group’s first responsibility is to help put on paper a cost-effective shelving system that meets both current and future storage needs. Systems are designed to maximize storage efficiency, minimize investment and help meet applicable building codes such as aisle dimensions, fire egress aisles and seismic requirements.
